We Are the Solution: Building Global Indigenous Collaboration to Overcome Failing International Mechanisms

Nov 13th: 15:55-16:55

International mechanisms continue to fail in their commitments for effective climate action while increasingly reducing Indigenous Peoples’ access to negotiation spaces and decision-making processes. It is clear that effective solutions for our global climate crises cannot come from these institutions. Despite these systemic issues, Indigenous Peoples continue to design and implement effective climate action at local and regional levels. What happens when we take our power back to create our own spaces to nurture and build global collaboration with each other outside these mechanisms?

This panel will showcase representatives from the seven-socio cultural regions of the globe to discuss what's possible when Indigenous Peoples work together across geopolitical boundaries to restore relationships with one another and with our lands and waters in solidarity against unsustainable systems of power. They will share the lessons learned from hundreds of years of resistance to colonial powers and strategies to protect and preserve lifeways, cultural practices, and restore sustainable land-based livelihoods and how these are the pathways for meaningful climate action.Seasoned analysts employ quantitative and qualitative tools to uncover root causes rather than treat symptoms.
