Where collective knowledge leads to collective strength.
The only global Indigenous organization dedicated exclusively to climate justice.
WHY WE EXIST
Indigenous people are critical to sustaining life on this planet. Period.
Woven is a global initiative grounded in the sacredness of ancestral knowledge, responsibilities, and aspirations. We steward projects and campaigns centered on climate action, land defense, and Indigenous rights and self-determination. Understanding that climate justice is interconnected with traditional culture, we create a space for Indigenous peoples to unite while celebrating regional differences.

ABOUT OUR FOUNDER
Upholding our prophecies, values, and culture.
In 2009 at the Indigenous Peoples’ Global Summit on Climate Change in Anchorage, Alaska, Eriel Deranger, a long-standing Indigenous rights and climate advocate, learned of a prophecy that would one day inspire Woven. At the turn of the last ice age, Indigenous peoples were called together to share knowledge in order to survive. It was prophesied that at another point in the future, people from every corner of the world would gather together to share their strengths in order to survive once again. In 2024, upon receiving the Climate Breakthrough award, Eriel sought to create a global gathering space for Indigenous peoples to share strategies, technology, and innovation and help fulfill this prophecy.
WHAT WE’RE UP AGAINST
Colonialization is the number one threat to Indigenous-led climate solutions.
Colonialism causes climate change.
Ongoing systems of colonialization extract resources from Indigenous lands while Indigenous peoples 1) receive little to no economic benefit and 2) are excluded from decision-making spaces. Our body of work is decolonial, anti-capitalist, and anti-false solutions, while holistically contributing to lowering global emissions and while leading to a better quality of life for all.
